From 8 to 10 April 2024, the Faculty of Music of JAMU and the Department of Music Production are preparing the 10th Symposium, which will take place in the Brno creative hub KUMST.
You can follow the Symposium website here and we also publish the latest information on Facebook.
SYMPOSIUM: Arts | Music | Management
is an international meeting of students, educators and experts, especially in the field of music management and production.
contact: symposium@jamu.cz, up-to-date information can be found on Facebook here
The symposium was established in 2013 at the Faculty of Music of the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts Brno on the initiative of Lucie Pešl Šilerová and Daniela Svobodová (Peclová). The participants’ response was so strong that another conference was held at Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (HAMU) the following year and later in 2014 at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava – i.e. at Czech and Slovak art higher education institutions that teach music production or music management.
The venue and the organiser changes regularly between the following main collaborating workplaces:
Music Production Department, Faculty of Music, JAMU (Brno);
Music Production Department HAMU (Prague); and
the Dramaturgy and Music Management field of study at the Academy of Performing Arts (Bratislava).
A number of foreign and domestic experts have spoken at the symposium since 2013: Mary Lou Falcone (US), Véronique Firkusny-Callegari (US), Linda Petříková (US), John Groves (UK/DE), Anthony Paul De Ritis (US), Martin Královič (SK), Peter Tschmuck (AT), Miguel Kertsman (US/AT), Steffen Höhne (DE), Lukáš Jandač (CZ), Petr Ostrouchov (CZ), Alena Nachtigallová (CZ), Daniel Šmíd (CZ), Ingeborg Radok Žádná (CZ), Jiří Štilec (CZ), Lucie Pešl Šilerová (CZ).
Guests change, but one aspect remains – the symposium is still a student project. It is the students who are most involved in its organisation.
Symposium 2013: Daniela Peclová
Symposium 2016: Mária Žilecká (Symposium) and Magdalena Samková (Employers’ Forum)
Symposium 2019: Michaela Gereová (Symposium) and Mária Takáčová (International Day)
“Modern management is like shooting at a moving target. You must lead the target and anticipate the movement of the whole field of music and culture at an unimaginable speed. In addition to solid and deep knowledge of the basic matter (i.e. the musical product), it also requires courage and perseverance. And of course a network of good contacts and the ability to communicate, both in the traditional way and in all existing and future ways. The meeting of future managers – Symposium – is already a traditional opportunity to meet colleagues from the same field. We can exchange experiences, get to know a number of experts and discuss the issues of now.
