Where is the oboe interpretation taught at JAMU?

 The oboe interpretation is taught at the Wind Instruments Department. This department prepares professional artists for work in symphony, theatre and chamber orchestras and also future teachers for primary, secondary and tertiary art education. Teaching at the Wind Instruments Department builds on the historical legacy of Brno’s cultural traditions and its geographical location. 

How does the oboe interpretation field of study prepare students for their future careers? 

After graduation, graduates will have the practical knowledge and skills needed for artistic activity, and, thanks to their theoretical education, they will also be able to work as teachers in primary art schools.

Where do graduates of the oboe interpretation field find employment?

After graduating they can find employment as soloists or chamber or orchestral players who will be able to cover a wide repertoire of all styles. 

What are the conditions of the entrance examination? 

Applicants must have completed secondary education by a Matura examination. Applicants must demonstrate an exceptional level of skills in their specialization in a practical exam and meet the conditions of the admission procedure. The entrance examination determines the professional and especially artistic qualification for studies in the chosen specialization of the given study program. 

How does the entrance examination work? 

The entrance examination is held in the form of a recital, during which the applicant performs on the instrument for which he or she is applying. There are the following specializations in the Playing Wind Instruments study program: Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, French horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba.

How will the entrance examination for oboe be conducted?

The applicant should prepare the following compositions for the entrance examination:

  1. Two contrasting virtuoso etudes of the applicant’s choice
  2. One composition of the Baroque period of the applicant’s choice
  3. One fast movement from a Classical or Romantic concerto (including cadenzas) of the applicant’s choice
  4. One romantic composition of the applicant’s choice

In addition to the talent part of the entrance examination, the applicants will also take a general knowledge test, which makes up ten percent of the overall evaluation. Each applicant shall also ensure their own piano accompaniment. At the same time, the applicant will take a language proficiency test, which is not part of the admission procedure and serves for informative purposes only.
